About arachnid project
aarachnid project is about developing, designing and building interactive websites as a hobby.
The main objectives are very personal, like:
- Satisfying my natural desire to be inventive, to be creative, and to learn new stuff;
- Always having the permanent opportunity to do something interesting on a very low budget;
- Having a hobby which can be shared in the virtual world of the internet, but also in the real world where this hobby has brought me into contact with several people who have become dear to me.
Main activities include:
- studying modern internet design tools
- developing functional application modules
- the design, building and implementation of complete websites
- sharing this hobby with others in the real and virtual worlds

Application Modules
When building websites I like to have trusted methods and (code) modules at my disposal. Whether they be standard or custom made you need to have and know them. So aquiring, developing and learing to apply functional modules is an essential part of web design. This forms a major part of my hobby - a continuous activity which I like to keep separate from the website building process itself. When not building a website I'm usually busy developing and especially improving my existing methods and modules for implementing interactive website functionality: Typical topics are
- multimedia: images, audio, animations, video (software, implementation...)
- page layout, navigation, menus, input forms etc. (HTML/CSS)
- client side data input, forms, validation and manipulation (Javascript)
- server side functionality: file system objects, emails etc. (ASP/VBscript)
- database functionality: input, browsing, editing, queries etc. (SQL, ADODB)
- content management functionality: data input/presentation, upload routines etc.
... in short anything which catches my interest.
Complete Websites
Building complete websites is something I do now and again - when the opportunity arises. By definition the building of a website is a project with a start and an end. You really need a client or principal for whom you build the site according to specific requirements. So I distinguish between my own websites, which have several applications or virtual sites, and project assignments. By assignments I mean building websites on a commercial or voluntary basis (it's my hobby) for family, friends and aquaintences and for voluntary organizations
